Madikeri is a
hill station town, also known as Mercara, it is the headquarters of Kodagu
(Coorg) district. It is a popular tourist destination. Madikeri was formerly
known as Muddu raja keri. Muddurajakeri which means Mudduraja's town, was named
after the prominent Haleri king, Mudduraja who ruled Kodagu from 1633-1687.
Coorgs (the Kodagu men) are identified closely with an ‘emblem’ of knives (the
odikathi and the peechekathi). These weapons hold great significance for them,
and therefore the Peechekathi is worn on the attire as well.

Received on 28th of May, 2019. Thanks to Bhumika Israni from Mumbai. The post marks are from the Madikeri Hill Station. The cancellation features the Odukathi, a dagger and a Peechikathi, a small knife used by the Kodava community as a part of their ceremonial dress. Unfortunately, the post marks are not much visible and readable.
